Bless You!
Most of us are familiar with this little phrase, which is spoken, sometimes even by a total stranger, upon the release of a sneeze. But there's more to a blessing than just words. A blessing is like a beautifully wrapped present waiting to be opened and enjoyed. It is a gift filled with love, good tidings, and promise... the friendship of other women is one such blessing! It comes to us as a gift from God, the best blessing-giver of all, and it is wrapped and ribboned in the heart and life, tears and laughter, and caring and sharing of someone we would call a true friend. The Blessing of Friendship celebrates both our friendship with other women as well as our relationship with Jesus, as our very Best Friend of all!

My friend Sandi collects teacups and teapots - not just because they are so pretty, but because she truly enjoys tea, much like I enjoy my coffee. Whenever I visit her, she always has the teakettle whistling, ready to fill my cup with some fragrant herbal brew. This friend graciously serves me not only a cup of tea, but also the cup of total acceptance and love - a drink of blessing that over flows my heart.

I first met Sandi during a very difficult time of my life. I was emotionally wounded and lonely. She somehow saw through the "bandages" I had applied to my heart, not bandages for healing, but for protection. She reached out with the love of Christ and encouraged me as I loosened the thick wrappings and allowed myself to once again experience the true friendship of other women.

Dear Jesus,
help me to have a servant's heart -
to be a woman who pours a drink more refreshing than tea.
May the cup I offer to the women you have placed in my life
always overflow with your love and acceptance.

Want some inside information...
stuff not everyone gets to know?

When I first had the opportunity to write The Blessing of Friendship, I wondered how I would illustrate it since I had never painted people before. Shortly after I sent in my stories and my rough... very rough, stick-figure sketches to my editor, she called me. She very nicely questioned my ability to paint realistic figures since she had none on file and asked if I would be so kind as to send them samples right away. Of course, I said "yes, no problem" as if I had some to send!

Instead of panicking (which I've been known to do on ocassion), I got off the phone and said "You're on Lord". I knew He had called me to write this book and I had to trust that He would enable me to illustrate it. The picture to the right, from page 10, is my very first painting of people!!

I share this not to say "look at me... ain't I good", because the truth is... God gets ALL the glory. But be encouraged... if God is calling you to step out of your comfort zone and do something you've never done before... trust Him! If it's really Him and you know it in your heart, whatever it is He's calling you to do, He will also enable you to do it... and He gets ALL the glory!
